You could play Dungeon Runners. It's like WoW, but free. It does have a large download. Also, the free account does have some limitations on what type of equipment you can have early on but you can get it later. They are adding small advertisements to loading screens.
It's a pretty fun game.

Reply:Guild Wars is very similar to Runescape, and it is very addictive. It's an Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game like World of Warcraft, but there is no subscription fee.
Also, check out World of Warcraft for a more popular experience for I think $20 a month (I don't play it so I'm not sure of the monthly rate).
